Metasurface-based antennas have gained considerable interest from the scientific and academic community, emerging as a promising technology in the field of communications and radio frequency. These flat and compact structures have the unique ability to manipulate electromagnetic waves efficiently and flexibly, presenting exceptional properties for the design and development of more efficient and smaller antennas. This article examines how metasurfaces enable precise control of electromagnetic waves, improving key aspects such as directivity, radiation efficiency, and bandwidth. Additionally, it provides a thorough analysis of the various applications of different metasurface based antennas, considering fundamental characteristics such as specific frequency ranges and other relevant parameters.
