Diatom assemblages of surface sediments of the Chaun Bay, a unique basin of the East Siberian Arctic
摘要
This article presents the results of a study of diatoms from surface sediments of the Chaun Bay (CB), located on the margin of the East Siberian Sea (ESS) and characterized by a unique marine ecosystem atypical of the Siberian Arctic. The discovered diatom flora is distinguished by its species richness and includes 318 species and subspecies, more than half of which (169 species) were discovered for the first time in the CB. The species richness, relatively high diatom abundance, ecological and biogeographic composition, and high number of newly discovered species make the diatom flora of the CB sediments unique to the East Siberian Sea and the seas of the Eastern Arctic. Cluster analysis identified six diatom assemblages that differ in dominant species, species composition, ecological structure, and biogeographic distribution, each occupying a distinct area in the CB and the ESS.
