摘要

In recent years, there has been a notable increase in interest from the global research community regarding natural waste fillers. This study presents an investigation into the mechanical properties of a novel series of composites that incorporate natural clamshell powder and eggshell powder as reinforcement. The mechanical and vibrational behaviour of these filler-enhanced clamshell and eggshell powder-vinyl ester composites were found. The composites were fabricated using a hand-layup moulding process, with filler contents set at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. The various mechanical properties, including tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength, and SEM analysis, were assessed according to ASTM standards for different fabrication parameter combinations. The results showed that the clamshell / eggshell powder reinforcement can change characteristics and improved various vinyl ester composite properties. Further investigation showed that mechanical properties are negatively affected by filler agglomeration when the amount of natural fillers used exceeds a specific limit, around 15 weight%. When compared to pure vinyl ester, samples reinforced with a hybrid filler demonstrated superior tensile, flexural, impact strength and hardness.
