<p>In this paper, curcumin extracted from turmeric was used as the main chain extender, and the curcumin-based polyurethane films were successfully prepared using the casting method, employing the chain extension reaction with prepolymers obtained by reacting polybutylene adipate-1,4-butanediol with isophorone diisocyanate. The effect of curcumin addition on the mechanical, optical, barrier, thermal, hydrophilic, and morphological properties of the films was investigated. The results showed that the mechanical properties of the films showed a tendency to increase and then decrease with the addition of curcumin. In addition, the thermogravimetric analysis curves confirmed that the addition of curcumin effectively improved the thermal stability of the films. The analysis of the optical properties showed that the addition of curcumin enhanced the UV-blocking ability of the films. In conclusion, curcumin was used as a chain extender in the synthesis of polyurethane to obtain a polyurethane film with good heat resistance, mechanical properties, and UV-blocking ability.</p>
