Research Hot Spots and Trends of Photoelectric Therapy in Facial Rejuvenation: A 20-Year Bibliometric Analysis Based on Web of Science

In recent years, facial rejuvenation treatments have increasingly leaned toward minimally invasive and noninvasive methods. Photoelectric therapy has gained widespread popularity as a noninvasive treatment for facial rejuvenation. This study aims to construct a visual map of photoelectric therapy for facial rejuvenation through bibliometric analysis, systematically analyzing current research hotpots and future prospects in the field.
MethodsPublications related to photoelectric therapy for facial rejuvenation from the Web of Science Core Collection database were extracted for the years 2004–2023. The obtained data were analyzed using VOSviewer software and the R package (Bibliometrix).
ResultsThis bibliometric analysis extracted 1139 documents from the Web of Science Core Collection database spanning 2004–2023 on photoelectric therapy for facial rejuvenation. Annual publication rates increased steadily before 2014 and showed fluctuations thereafter. The USA leads in both publication and citation counts. “Lasers in Surgery and Medicine” had the highest publication output, while “Dermatologic Surgery” had the highest citation or co-citation frequency. Goldman MP and Dover JS were identified as the most prolific and co-cited authors, respectively. The University of California San Diego ranked highest in publication output, with Anderson’s team at Harvard University demonstrating the broadest publication influence. The top 5 keywords by frequency were “laser,” “skin,” “skin rejuvenation,” “efficiency,” and “rejuvenation.” Analysis of research trends highlighted “safety,” “efficiency,” and “prevention” as prominent topics over the past decade, underscoring current research interests in photoelectric therapy.
ConclusionsOur research indicates that a focus on safety, efficacy, personalized experiences, and the combined application of various anti-aging techniques represents the current and future development trends and research directions in photoelectric therapy for facial rejuvenation.
