Background <p>Cutaneous wound healing is a complex process that can be compromised by various conditions, such as diabetes, infections and vascular diseases. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has emerged as a promising approach due to its regenerative properties and ability to release growth factors that can accelerate the healing process. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review of the efficacy of PRP in the healing process of skin wounds in clinical trials.</p> Methods <p>The review was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines, including searches in the Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and Cochrane databases. Controlled clinical trials published between 2004 and 2024, in English, were considered. Two independent reviewers selected the studies and the methodological quality was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias scale.</p> Results <p>Initially, 1903 articles were retrieved and from them, 80 were read. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 studies were selected in the final analysis. The results showed that PRP treatment resulted in a significant reduction in the wound area, a reduction in pain levels and an improvement in the morphological characteristics of the wounds. A range of PRP application techniques and types of wounds treated was noted, including chronic ulcers, diabetic wounds, and burns.</p> Conclusions <p>This review suggests that PRP can be an effective intervention in healing skin wounds, showing significant benefits compared to current conventional treatment using gas compresses and ointments. However, more studies are needed to standardize PRP application methodologies and to further elucidate the mechanism of action of PRP on skin wound healing. The clinical implications indicate that PRP could be a promising option for improving outcomes in patients with skin wounds.</p> <p>Level of Evidence: Level II, therapeutic study.</p>
