Overview of fault management for shipboard integrated power system

As the complexity of shipboard integrated power systems (SIPS) continues to increase, ensuring the rapid recovery of the ship’s power system (SPS) during faults and maintaining the continuity of power supply to critical loads is of great significance for the safety of ship navigation. Research on fault management in SIPS is therefore crucial. This paper first provides an overview of the structural characteristics of SIPS, discusses the significance and connotation of fault management, and then reviews current research achievements and recent advances in SIPS fault management. This includes an assessment of fault detection and localization, fault isolation, and reconfiguration algorithms, as well as a summary of the strengths and limitations of existing methods. Finally, the paper offers perspectives and a summary on SIPS fault management from aspects such as the establishment of distributed reconfiguration frameworks, fault isolation devices, dynamic fault reconfiguration, and multi-technology interconnection. It is hoped that this work will provide valuable references for technological innovation and engineering applications of SIPS.
