<p>This study presents a pilot transformer monitoring system designed for remote measurement of dissolved flammable gases, in particular hydrogen, as well as partial discharges (PD) and oil moisture. The system was installed on a 110&#xa0;kV transformer at the end of December 2023. The behavior of the oil moisture was analyzed, and based on the high PD intensity and the sharp increase in the concentration of flammable gases, primarily hydrogen, an unscheduled chromatographic analysis was proposed and performed. A dangerous excess of the threshold hydrogen concentration led to a decision to disconnect the transformer. A subsequent internal inspection revealed a defect in the electrical insulation of a conductor in one of the phases. After replacing the conductor and regenerating the oil, the level of partial discharges and the concentration of flammable gases were below the sensitivity of the instruments. Thus, the use of the monitoring system prevented a transformer failure.</p>
