Comparison analysis for inter-area oscillation suppression of DFIG based on POD applied to RSC and GSC

With the development of renewable energy power generation technologies, the penetration rate of doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine units in power systems has been continuously increasing. The problem of inter-area oscillation caused by their integration into power systems has also become increasingly prominent. At the same time, further in-depth research is still needed on whether the power oscillation damper (POD) is applied to the rotor-side converter (RSC) or the grid-side converter (GSC) of the DFIG. To address this challenge, this research focuses on the comparison analysis of for inter-area oscillation suppression of DFIG based on POD applied to RSC and GSC. First, the models of the RSC and GSC of the DFIG are elaborated in detail. Subsequently, a supplementary damping control strategy of DFIG based on POD is proposed, which includes constructing the control architecture, clarifying the control processes applied to the RSC and the GSC, and designing the parameters of the phase compensation link. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy in suppressing inter-area oscillations and the respective advantages of DFIG based on POD in the applications of RSC and GSC are verified through example simulations, providing a reference basis for the selection of control strategies in engineering applications.
