A novel multiport converter solution for efficient renewable energy utilization with hybrid loads
摘要
This paper introduces an innovative multiport converter (MPC) with a reduced number of switching devices for hybrid sources and loads. The multiport converter is an emerging power converter that interfaces sustainable sources like photovoltaic, wind energy, fuel cells, and other distributed sources with both AC and DC loads. Integrating multiple sources with multiple loads is essential because renewable energy sources have intermittent outputs. This paper presents a novel MPC structure that overcomes the limitations of traditional converters with a reduced switch count to achieve high-quality multilevel AC output, while a feed-forward converter (FFC) configuration is used to obtain a DC output. The proposed MPC offers advantages such as fewer components, higher efficiency, compact design, fast response, and bidirectional operation. The proposed MPC is modeled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink, with its operation confirmed through an FPGA-based experimental prototype.
