<p>Many approaches to generalizing the Vandermonde matrix and evaluating its determinant can be found in the literature, and they have applications and connections in different fields of research. This work evaluates the determinant of the difference between two specific generalized Vandermonde matrices over a finite commutative ring. We apply this determinant to obtain a new proof of a class of difference schemes of strength <i>t</i> over a finite commutative ring.</p>
