Die „Baumrindenaorta“ und das syphilitische Aortenaneurysma
摘要
Syphilitic aortitis and the resulting aortic aneurysms are now rare but can still be the cause of sudden death. We report on the autopsy of an 88-year-old woman with a ruptured aortic aneurysm and cardiac tamponade. Histological examination revealed a chronic active lymphoplasmacytic aortitis with obliterating endarteritis of the vasa vasorum and extensive media destruction with only minor arteriosclerosis. The findings were consistent with tertiary stage cardiovascular syphilis. The case highlights the importance of histopathology in sudden death due to aortic rupture.
