<p>We report the case of sudden unexpected death of a&#xa0;5-week-old girl, which was initially suspected to be sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The forensic autopsy revealed no evidence of external influence or intoxication. The histological examination revealed a&#xa0;pronounced left ventricular noncompaction as a&#xa0;rare congenital cardiomyopathy with findings of acute left heart failure. The case highlights the importance of knowledge of rare cardiac diseases as a&#xa0;differential diagnosis of SUDI/SIDS and the importance of the histological diagnostics.</p>

We report the case of sudden unexpected death of a 5-week-old girl, which was initially suspected to be sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
