Emerging trends and future directions of fused deposition modeling − 3D printing
摘要
Recent advances in Additive Manufacturing have significantly expanded the capabilities of Fused Deposition Modeling in engineering and industrial applications. This review discusses emerging trends and future directions of FDM 3D printing, focusing on developments in materials, process innovation, and intelligent manufacturing. The paper first presents an overview of additive manufacturing technologies and the fundamentals of FDM, including commonly used thermoplastics, composite materials, metallic fillers, and ceramic-based filaments. Recent progress in hybrid and multi-material printing is highlighted for its ability to fabricate multifunctional components with enhanced performance. The integration of artificial intelligence for process optimization, defect prediction, and parameter control is also examined. In addition, sustainable and bio-based materials are reviewed as environmentally friendly alternatives for future manufacturing. Advanced printing strategies, such as non-planar printing, are discussed for improving mechanical properties and geometric flexibility. Overall, this review provides insights into the evolving landscape of FDM technology and its future research potential.
