摘要

The evaluation of the optimal cutting performance of cutting fluids in machining operations, is critical in ensuring the wear rate of the cutting tool is minimized. And it is particularly important that having the specific cutting fluid for an operation is optimized to ensure the cutting performance of the machining operation is met. For this study, the performance of paraffin oil and soluble oil in the cutting of a cylindrical AISI 304 steel material has been investigated. For each of the cutting fluids, Three(3) D Surface plots were developed in analyzing the variations of the process parameters. The optimal cutting parameters for each of the cutting fluid was determined using the Response surface methodology (RSM), with Parafin oil recording a sharp reduction in the tool wear. For the paraffin oil, cutting speed 1303 m/min, feed rate 0.354 mm/rev, and depth of cut 0.458 mm with a tool wear of 1.173 mm was recorded, and for the soluble oil; cutting speed 1321 m/min, feed rate 0.208 mm/rev, and depth of cut 0.682 mm with a tool wear of 2.073 mm.
