摘要

Physical models obtained by 3D printing can contribute to project maturation by enabling ways of interacting with artifacts. In many application areas, it is paramount to create and analyze physical structures originating from 2D images or 3D porous or cellular structures. Currently, one way to obtain 3D geometric models is to use specialized computer-aided design (CAD) tools. However, modeling-based approaches face obstacles to obtaining representative 3D models required in the many analyses. In addition, the file size of some models can prohibit them from being manipulated by traditional methods. This work proposes computational solutions based on image processing to manufacture 3D shapes generated from 2D images and complex porous or cellular structures from 3D unit cells. The proposal also includes the possibility of varying the internal dimension of the unit cells (strut, walls, or any other shape unit cell) along the Z axis. The methods were implemented in an in-house platform called RP3, and the potential of the solutions is demonstrated. The results showed the feasibility of the solutions with samples representing organic and natural rock formation structures and 3D porous/cellular structures printed in resin with the vat photopolymerization (VPP) technology. The methods are not limited to this additive manufacturing technology, though.
