<p>The present work investigates three key claims about the AI revolution. Specifically, the study aimed to understand how much people would agree with statements that the AI revolution results in exploitation of nature, exploitation of people’s labor while labeling data, and exploitation of people’s data. We also investigated how confident people were regarding these statements. We discovered in a German sample (<i>N</i> = 265) and US sample (<i>N</i> = 290) that participants agreed to the above-mentioned statements in rising frequency from item 1 through item 3; the same was true for confidence levels of the statements (although people overall did not reach very high agreement or confidence levels). We also observed that in the German sample, agreement to the items was linked to conspiracy mentality and&#xa0;in parts to the Dark Triad of Personality. The latter associations were driven primarily by the male sample. In the US sample, less observations in this direction could be made, but we should mention that the samples differed regarding sociodemographics beyond the country distinction (German population vs. US student sample). Also against the background of psychometric issues in the US sample, we present the US data in the supplement only. In conclusion, the study shows that it makes sense to distinguish between agreeing with and being confident about the statements touching on the dark side of the AI revolution. Moreover, conspiracy mentality and the Dark Triad of Personality might play a role in understanding this investigated AI complex, but this question needs to be further investigated.</p>
