Langzeitfolgen nach Implantation eines KineSpring-Implantats

Knee osteoarthritis is one of the most common chronic conditions worldwide, with increasing prevalence with age. When conservative treatment options have been exhausted, surgical interventions such as joint replacement or, in cases of malalignment, osteotomy are available. However, osteotomy is indicated for only a limited number of patients and permanently alters the mechanical axis of the leg. Total knee arthroplasty is often not an ideal solution for younger patients, leading to a growing interest in alternative treatment options. Experimental clinical studies have shown that joint distraction in osteoarthritic knees can have pain-relieving effects. Based on this principle, a minimally invasive implant was developed—a type of shock absorber (KineSpring©, Moximed, Inc., Fremont, CA, USA)—which is implanted medially in the knee. This device reduces joint pressure and provides intermittent distraction during nonweight-bearing phases. The aim is to alleviate pain without significantly impairing the natural biomechanics of the knee. To date, there is a lack of long-term studies or case reports in the literature. Therefore, we present a case of a patient 12 years after implantation.
