<p>Female fertility rates are declining worldwide, mainly due to the postponement of active family planning to later stages of reproductive life. At the same time, studies indicate that female fertility is adversely affected by climate change and exposure to environmental pollutants. Globally, increasing periods of heat and cold affect daily life, nutrition, water supply, and fertility. Chemical and air pollutants, endocrine disruptors, and radiation may influence the menstrual cycle, follicular maturation, and oocyte and embryo quality. Particularly persistent pollutants such as micro- and nanoplastics or organochlorine compounds may have consequences for fertility and potentially affect subsequent generations. The detection of various environmental pollutants in follicular fluid is alarming. This article provides an overview of current studies and raises awareness of the impact of environmental factors on reproductive health.</p>
