摘要

History is only what we remember. German-speaking gynecology and obstetrics has produced a number of outstanding medical historians, among them Paul Diepgen, who received his specialist training in gynecology and obstetrics in Freiburg im Breisgau under Alfred Hegar. After many years as a gynecologist and medical historian, Diepgen was appointed to the Friedrich Wilhelm University of Berlin in 1929, where, from 1930 onward, he established the most important institute for the history of medicine in Germany and his own Diepgen School. His meticulously detailed works should still be found in the reference libraries of all German-speaking teaching hospitals, or at least among the personal reference works of all interested colleagues.
