摘要

With the rising incidence of breast cancer and falling mortality rates, more and more patients are entering the oncological follow-up phase. The primary goal of this phase is to detect potentially curable local recurrences using mammography and ultrasound. Routine screening for distant recurrence is not recommended by national or international guidelines. Recent advancements in liquid biopsies, particularly circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), hold the promise of a highly prognostic biomarker that could revolutionize future follow-up care. Evidence for this approach is expected from the German SURVIVE trial, which compares ctDNA-based follow-up with the current standard of care. In addition to detecting disease recurrence, follow-up care includes essential aspects of maintaining and promoting patients’ health as well as managing the side effects of current or past therapies. These include cardio-oncological monitoring, ensuring adherence to treatment, optimizing lifestyle factors, and are collectively referred to as “survivorship.”
