Physico-Chemical Properties and Contamination of Flood Sediment Deposits Collected Along the Seine River in Paris During the March 2024 Flood Before Paris Olympics
摘要
Although sediment quality in the Seine River has improved since the 1970s, flood events still trigger significant pollution. Sediment deposits collected at ten sites after a 2024 pre-Olympic flood revealed contrasting trends: drugs increased downstream, whereas pesticides decreased. Among metals, lead (Pb) showed the strongest enrichment (up to factor 18 downstream), possibly linked to ongoing urban sources such as the Notre-Dame fire. These findings indicate that, beyond microbial indicators, the chemical status of the Seine remains vulnerable to episodic contamination and warrants sustained monitoring to maintain public confidence.
