摘要

Benign prostate syndrome (BPS) encompasses various irritative and obstructive signs of micturition complaints. A frequent cause of BPS is benign prostatic obstruction (BPO). Due to the prevalence of the disease and the associated impairment of the quality of life guideline-based diagnostics and personalized selection of available treatment options are becoming increasingly more important in routine urological practice. The treatment decision is based on symptom severity, prostate volume, comorbidities and, last but not least, patient preference. A wide range of interventional treatment options are available, which, if the patient is suitable, must be discussed in detail with the patient in order to identify the ideal treatment method for each individual patient. The risk profile of the treatment option, options for preserving ejaculatory function and the durability of the method play an increasing role in this process.
