<p>The maxillary canal system in <i>Cynognathus</i> and <i>Diademodon</i> is described. The hypothesis that expansion of the maxillary sinus represents a synapomorphy of the clade Cynognathia is supported. A trend towards the reduction of the inferior palpebral ramus is proposed.</p>
