摘要

Screen time among children and adolescents is currently a widely discussed topic. National and international guidelines outline age-dependent time limits, which however vary significantly in their scope and strictness. Furthermore, current empirical evidence predominantly shows small to moderate, context-dependent effects of screen time on developmental and health outcomes. For somatic outcomes such as sleep, overweight and myopia, there are relatively consistent associations, while findings regarding mental health issues, behavioral problems and cognitive development are less robust. Causal effects can only be demonstrated to a limited extent. Overall, current findings do not support generalized negative effects but point to potential risks associated with excessive use and underscore the importance of content quality, usage context and individual factors beyond mere time limits.
