<p>Life-threatening pediatric emergencies are rare events, both in prehospital emergency medicine and in pediatric emergency departments or outpatient practices; however, the relative proportion of airway and breathing disorders (airway/breathing = AB) is high. In the management of AB emergencies, ensuring adequate oxygenation and ventilation is the primary goal. In principle, all interventions should be as minimally invasive and as non- irritating for the airway as possible. The degree of invasiveness also depends on team competence; overall, endotracheal intubation plays a&#xa0;relatively subordinate role.</p>
