Kinder und Jugendliche mit Adipositas: warum wir wen wie behandeln müssen
摘要
Overweight and obesity in children are a growing global issue. In Germany approximately 15% of children and adolescents are affected. Although the prevalence has plateaued, the severity of the condition is increasing. The causes of obesity are diverse, ranging from genetic predisposition to numerous environmental factors. Therefore, the medical history should be comprehensive and individualized, while the diagnostics should be targeted and indicated with caution.
Given the substantial importance of sequelae, which begin in childhood and can worsen in adulthood, early intervention is crucial. The Edmonton Obesity Staging System for Pediatrics (EOSS-P) provides a valuable complement to the body mass index (BMI) by considering the severity of obesity-related health problems and gives treatment recommendations based on this.
