<p>Among the annual conferences of the German Society for Pediatrics, today’s DGKJ, the 1925 annual conference in Karlsbad occupies a&#xa0;special place. Prior to the conference there was a&#xa0;discussion about the congress location, which was in “enemy territory”. Some prominent members therefore refused to attend. The congress president, Clemens von Pirquet, had an accident on the day before the conference began and returned to Vienna. The Bohemian spas and the German Medical Faculty of Prague hoped for support in this time marked by Czech national pride. The lectures given reflect the main areas of focus in clinical pediatrics between the wars. The outlined later fate of many of the speakers mentioned is depressing: barely 10 years later during the National Socialism era they were to be silenced.</p>
