Technische Umsetzung der Arbeit mit PROMs für Klinik, Praxis und Forschung

The digital collection of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) offers considerable potential for healthcare, quality assurance, and research. Despite a wide range of technical possibilities, its standardized implementation remains a challenge. This article provides a practical overview of the technical basics of digital PROM collection, from the design of electronic questionnaires to data protection and data transmission to integration into practice and hospital information systems. It covers the function and programming logic of digital questionnaire systems, issues of encryption and the legal framework (GDPR), information technology (IT) infrastructure requirements, and available software solutions (cloud vs. self-hosted). Particular attention is paid to the storage and processing of data for clinical use and the use of standards such as Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) for cross-system interoperability. Possibilities for automation, event control, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI)-based evaluation systems are outlined. Successful implementation of digital PROMs requires interdisciplinary collaboration and careful technical planning. The objectives of the surveys give rise to specific requirements for the software solutions used. In the future, digital recording systems could contribute to continuous, data-supported care in both out- and inpatient settings.
