Estimation for Frequency and Damping Factor of Exponentially Damped Complex Sinusoid

A generalized method for estimating the frequency and damping factor of exponentially damped complex sinusoid is presented. The proposed method utilizes three Discrete Time Fourier Transform (DTFT) spectral lines located at arbitrary positions in the main lobe of the frequency spectrum to perform the estimation. In addition, the theoretical mean square error (MSE) of the method is analyzed in additive white noise. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves higher accuracy than the competing methods with its performance closely tracking the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) in most situations. The computational requirements are nearly equivalent to those of several existing methods.
