A Novel Approach to Enhance the Gain-Bandwidth and Slew Rate in CMOS Amplifiers Using External Current Recycling
摘要
An external nonlinear current recycling folded cascode amplifier with an improved gain-bandwidth and slew rate is proposed in this paper. The proposed amplifier employs a flipped voltage follower to form the adaptive biasing input stage. It uses a current recycling method and two nonlinear current mirrors to recycle the boosting currents from the input stage from the outside. This makes the gain-bandwidth and slew rate much better than those of a regular folded cascode amplifier. To demonstrate the enhanced performance of the proposed amplifier, we designed both the proposed amplifier and the traditional folded cascode amplifier in the 180 nm CMOS process. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed amplifier achieves a 2.4-fold gain-bandwidth and 14-fold slew rate enhancement with negligible extra power consumption compared with its conventional counterpart.
